For one week, between October 18-25, 1974, Isokyrian Chairwoman Dagnae Wilhjalmsdottir visited the Soviet Union to meet with General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev to discuss, among other things, the shared culture between Isokyria and Russia, the United States, NATO, nuclear weapons, and economics. The visit, the first of its kind for an Isokyrian head of state, was a pivotal point in the restoration of relations between Isokyria and the Soviet Union and laid the groundwork for relations with the Russian Federation, its successor state. It was compared to U.S. President Richard Nixon's visit to the Peoples Republic of China two years earlier.

Wilhjalmsdottir's decision to visit the Soviet Union was made somewhat suddenly. Improving relations with the Soviet Union had not been high on the agenda until about six months prior to the visit. While Isokyria and the Soviet shared embassies in each other's respective capitals, it was a weak relationship marred by hostility towards the Soviets created by Christian Robertsson. Wilhjalmsdottir, believing the communist superpower had changed in the decades following Robertsson's tenure, decided connecting with the Russians would prove valuable to Isokyria in the long run. She was also perhaps inspired by Nixon's visit to the Peoples Republic of China.
