Abotta became Mayor of Gilo on January 2, 1997. A Traditional Party politician, his actions were widely celebrated by both liberals and conservatives. Despite his high ratings, a scandal in 2001 involving illegal paying of employees made him virtually unreelectable. He lost to Jackie Spano in the 2001 election.
He ran unsuccessfully for parliamentary representative of Hila in 2006 and received a Center Party nomination, but was not elected.
He announced his intention to run for President of Nalatia on October 30, 2011 and his candidacy will officially begin on November 2, 2011.
