The Balkan League (sometimes referred to as the Second Balkan League, in reference to the original, albeit unrelated, Balkan League) is a political, economic, and military organization consisting of countries in and around the Balkan Peninsula. It was founded in 1996 after the Bosnian War by Hellas, Albania, Croatia and Bosnia with the signing of the Balkan Treaty. It's primary purpose is promoting peace and stability in the Balkans, including but not limited to: mutual defense, security, and protecting member nations from the influence of foreign powers as well promoting their interests both locally and abroad. Since it's inception it has grown to include most of the countries that make up the Balkan peninsula.
