Production facilities are what almost all the ships in a fleet are built from. They are generally either within or on the outside of the capital ship. The majority of production facilities is of the assembly line form, which takes a while to build the first unit but much less additional time to produce additional units. Capital ships cannot be built in such a manner because they are too large and no capital ship is large enough to hold an assembly line for the production of other capital ships. This means that production can be much, much faster than for the capital ships.
