Sen. Hon. Felicity Porthrop

Porthrop joined the United Islands Liberal Party along with most of the Labour caucus in October 2003; the mass defection rendered the party virtually defunct, and it folded in 2004. In February 2004, Porthrop was appointed as Minister for Education, Science and Youth Affairs an portfolio in which she has had considerable interest. Porthrop was formerly a schoolteacher and public education activist. Porthrop was at the time the youngest member of the federal cabinet.

In 2007, following the party's election loss, Senator Porthrop was made Shadow Minister for Culture in a move that was widely seen as demotion.
