Falkland Islands Television

Falkland Islands Television (FITV) is the oldest official broadcasting corportation in the Falkland Islands (broadcasting since 1970) and was the only local TV station. The TV station is currently privately owned by Cameron DeLacey who bought the company off the Brittish Government.

FITV has 3 TV channels. However, 2 of those are unaccessable unless you pay for Cable TV from the Government. FITV HQ is located on Davis Street near the School and Libary in Stanley, and it has the iconic TV arial as seen on FITV News. The TV Has Programming of a wide variety including Documentaries, News, Children's TV, Movies and Sports.

Programmes include: The (Late) Talk, FITV News, Boats with Ronan Donegal, FITV Schooling, the Today Show, Work, Showbiz, Sunshine and Pets!. Other Progammes are shown however they are not home grown, they include: Sky News, CNN, Takeshi's Castle, Ninja Warrior, Globe Trekker, Antiques Road Show UK and CBBC/CBeebies.

FITV's broacasting range includes South Georgia and the Sandwich Islands, Tierra Del Fuego and via satellite at the Saint Helena, Tristan de Cunha and Ascension Islands.

Event Programming[]

It has the broadcasting rights for the Commonwealth Games, Olympics (jointly with BFBC) and the Stanley Races. The FITV however is believed to be in heavy debt (revealed by whistleblower Aaron Pierce for the Penguin News) however they have not confirmed or denied this, since this was revieled the rival broadcasters have been contesting for the right to broadcast the major events in the Falklands, the most prominent bid is a joint BFBC-FNN which hopes to gain the Olympics wholy in the next review of the broadcasting rights in 2012.

FITV Español[]

FITV Español is FITV's only international station, it is broadcasted from Montivideo and can be recived in all of Uruguay, Buenos Aries Province (Argentina), Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil)*, Entre Ríos (Argentina) plus via cable in Chile, Paraguay and the Falklands.

  • In Brazil, it has Portuguese Subtitles.
  • In French Guiana, it has French subtitles.
  • In Paraguay, it has also Guarani subtitles.

FITV Español has more Soap Operas and News than the Normal FITV in the Falklands. However, it does not run for 24 hours unlike the FITV in the Falklands.

FITV-UK[]

FITV-UK is a planned channel to be broadcast in UK for Falklanders in the UK. It will be broadcast (if it goes ahead) from the University of Norwich and shall be jointly run by the BBC and FITV. Programming hasn't been stated yet, however, it may be featuring shows such as Doctors (Soap), Eastenders, Omnibus and other secondary programming. It has been also speculated that it will feature news from the Falklands.
