The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam is the highest ranking official of the Communist Party of Vietnam. As the CPV are the largest party within the Vietnamese Fatherland Front they are also the leader of the VFF. The General Secretary also functions as the head of the Central Committee of the CPV, the highest executive and legislative body in North Vietnam, meaning they are the de facto head of government. The General Secretary also is the head of the Politburo and the Secretariat. The current General Secretary is Xuân Quỳnh Đam, incumbent since 2011.

Role and Duties

The General Secretary oversees the Central Committee, and Politburo of North Vietnam. As head of the Secretariat it is the General Secretaries duty to organise internal party and government affairs, and make executive decisions concerning matters within the party.
