Hanna Matilda Roggeveen (née Schneijders; born August 6, 1953) is a Bijani stateswoman, former attorney and politician, who has served as the 8th President of Bijan since July 1, 2009. She is the first female, as well as the first member of Bijan's minority Dutch community to hold the office of President. Prior to being elected President, she had served as a member of the Bijani House of Representatives from 1997 to 2009. In addition to her political career, she had a long and extensive career in different legal and non-governmental organizations. She was, among other things, a proponent of equal rights for women and LGBT citizens in Bijan.
Early life and career[]
Hanna Mathilda Schneijders was born on August 6, 1953, in Hadar, into a wealthy and prominent Dutch–Bijani family. Her father, Ralf Schneijders, was a member of the national executive of the Alliance of Dutch Voters, the primary political voice for Dutch people living in Bijan. Her mother, Julia Schneijders (née Gelderland) was an opera singer. Due to the unstable political climate in Bijan in the 1950s and 1960s, Ralf Schneijders sent his wife and children to live first in London, then briefly in Amsterdam and finally in Sydney.
