The interceptor is the general side-along complement that any fleet would have. Small and agile, they have great maneuverability in the depths of space. However, given the highly accurate (at least at close ranges) target-locking systems present on virtually every military ship this is hardly an asset. By contrast, they do have several disadvantages, most notably their inability to hyperspace-warp on their own and lack of high-powered weaponry. Their main asset is their cheapness. They are generally built with insubstantial armor, meaning they will often be destroyed very quickly, but each hit directed at them is one less directed at a more valuable vessel, and there are often many interceptors in significant battles. The main objective of the interceptor is to destroy bombers, a job they do very well with their weaponry. Unlike with the targeting systems on various other, larger vessels, the interceptors' are able to utilize the non-hyperspace speed and maneuverability of the light craft to bring it into position for very accurate attacks against bombs in transit.
