Koiwai Prospekt National Airport located in the Downtown Koiwai, is the smaller of Koiwai's two major airports. The airport is owned and operated by Koiwai Regional Airports, a agency of the state Department of Transportation, which also owns and operates the other major airport Koiwai Decker Reginrauve International Airport. Prospekt National is a major hub of IvalAir Shuttle, and FlyBusiness. The airport was opened on December 16, 2009, along with the RTS Koiwai's first in-fill station, Prospekt National Airport, on the Yellow Line.
History[]
Prospekt National Airport sits on what was once the Coldwater Industrial Park. When the Pollution Control Act was enacted in 1995, enabling emissions-based taxes on industry, the complex shuttered, as polluting industries fleed Koiwai. Tasked with redeveloping the site, the Koiwai Department of Urban Renewal in conjunction with the Koiwai Department of Transportation designated the area as the site of a new overflow airport for domestic flights, so that Reginrauve International's focus could be shifted to serving only major domestic destinations and international destinations. Construction begain in 1997, but was considerably slowed by a series of Environmental Impact Studies and international air incidents culminating in the September 11th Attacks in the United States. Construction was completed in October 2009, and the airport opened on December 16, 2009.
