The Mediterranean Bank (Banque du Méditerranée) is the largest bank in Occitania.
History[]
The Banque du Méditerranée was founded in 1862 by Antonio Torretini and Jacques Brack, two wealthy merchants. At its founding, it was the third oldest bank in Occitania afte the Banque Ferrat (1790-1887) and the Bank of Occitania (founded in 1848). In 1917, the bank took over the ailing Banque Rothschild, to become the country's second-largest. In 1972, the Banque Populaire was merged with the Mediterranean Bank, and it became Occitania's largest.
