The Most Holy Land of the Blessed Middle Italy in Pope's Possession, commonly known as Middle Italy (aka. Papal States) is a sovereign state in Europe, which borders Padania, which is a part of the European Union, San Marino and Tyrrhenia.

The official religion is Christianity. In 1970s the pope Adam IIX tried to modernize the country and one of his actions was to be to cancel the obligation to be christian if one lives in the Middle Italy. However, he was soon overthrown and was expelled out of the country. His successor was Pius XIII who instead abolished all other religions. In 1983 another step backwards was made. Anyone who was not Christian was not allowed to enter the country, anymore. The ban of non-Christians was cancelled in 1999, though.

Women's rights activism

Women began widely addressing the issue at the turn of the 20th century. This was dismissed by the authorities, however. In 1915 women were allowed to have a job without husband's permission. They were not allowed to own a property or money, though. This was cancelled in 1918 when the pope allowed women to own money and property in case their husband has died. Their property would become the property of their next husband or son, however. In 1930 women were granted full power over their property. No further advancements were made until women received equal political rights in 1956. Middle Italy was the last European country to do this. Reports of women's rights violations are still regular, however.

Sexual minorities

Middle Italy has been decried by the European Union concerning it's mistreatment of sexual minorities. Until 1994 sexual minorities were treated with repressions. The state still does not recognize sexual minorities, however. Numerous events regarding assaults against sexual minorities have been ignored by the government.

Unification with Padania and Tyrrhenia

Since the late 19th century a number of attempts have been made to unify Italian lands. Only one of them was successful. But ultimately it failed to hold Italian lands together. In 1948 the parliament of Middle Italy was overthrown in a coup. Communist government came into power. For a short time period there was a power vacuum during which Middle Italy regained independence. After communist regime in Tyrrhenia was discontinued both countries showed an interest to unify. They are slowly integrating with one another, however Padanians still are against the unification do to Tyrrhenian lower financial welfare. The authorities of Middle Italy, however, are against the unification of Italy.

Relations with Protestants and Orthodox Church

Pope Adam IIX expressed a wish to unify the Protestant, Roman Catholic and the Orthodox Church. He wasn't able to do much to meet this as he was soon overthrown by Pius XIII who declared them traitors thus ruining their relationships.
