New Alexandria is the largest and most densely populated city in New Jersey, and one of the oldest in all of the United States. Situated mainly on New Alexandria Island, in southern New Jersey's Atlantic Coastal Plain in between Ocean and Atlantic County, the city is conterminous with New Alexandria County. Both the county and the city consist of the main island and two small, adjacent islands: Blacklight Island and Terminus Island.
New Alexandria is recognized worldwide as one of the main cities of the United States. It is often associated with its signature gothic architecture and tall, stonework buildings. Having grown into a very large and intricate city, it is revered for being one of the more dangerous and less lawful cities in the country. For this reason, it is said that the city does not hold the title of New Jersey's capital city. In film and literature, it is often tied to dark, film noir themes. Since its establishment in 1666, the city has experienced a long and eventful history.
