In Kihāmát there is no state religion, this has been the case since the mid-nineteenth century during the late Kihā́mmic Republic. Prior to this separation of church and state the state religion had been Kihā́mmic Paganism. Today the majority of people in Kihāmát self-identify as irreligious, the country's largest religious group is the (Christian) Church of Kihāmát with nearly 1.5 million adherents according to the census of 2008. There are over twenty different religious denominations in Kihāmát.
