Sects are small organizations of spellshapers operating outside of the orthodox structure. Sects form spontaneously throughout the world, because hints of the truth of magic suffuses the world and all it takes to become a sect is to realize that one can collect mana and moieta from faera and use them to create spell effects.

Sects are generally small and geographically limited, and generally have a very limited collection of moieta, in terms of both variety and quantity, as well as generally inferior quality. Furthermore, sects generally don’t have a very good idea of what they’re doing (as they usually just blundered upon the secret of magic) and have no idea of powers they’d be facing.
